With the two-day “Preparatory Workshop on the Submission of Stakeholders Report under Universal Periodic Review (UPR)”, held on September 06–07, 2022 at NGO Forum, Human Rights Forum Bangladesh (HRFB) has begun its preparation to submit a stakeholders’ report under the fourth cycle of Universal Periodic Review (UPR). The representatives of the member organizations, who would be writing the thematic reports, participated in the session with enthusiasm.
As we approach the fourth cycle of the UPR, participants in this workshop noted the significant advancements Bangladesh has made while also recognizing the numerous challenges that exists in implementing the recommendations from the previous cycle.
The first day of the workshop covered issues like human rights, the significance of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Process, the UN Human Rights Mechanism, i.e., the Special Procedures, UPR, and treaty bodies. The latter part of day 1 covered experience sharing of the recent review session of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and Bangladesh’s engagement with the UPR. The second day of the workshop provided a platform for the participants to highly engage in interactive sessions, review the progress; followed by an experts’ panel discussion, distribution of responsibilities among the members; and finalization of the action plan.
